Our Therapeutic Approach
At Olive Leaf Therapy, we believe that every family is unique, and thus, the therapeutic approach should be tailored to meet the specific needs of each family. Here's a deeper look into our methods:
Family Systems Therapy
This approach examines the roles each family member plays within the family unit and how these roles can impact interactions and relationships. By understanding the broader family dynamics, we can address issues more holistically.
Family Counseling Service
When one family member is hurting, the others hurt as well. We find that including the whole family in therapy is the most effective way for the individual and the whole family to find healing. Even when treating an individual, we encourage family involvement whenever possible. If you are looking specifically for help with family interactions or parenting difficulties, we have much to offer you. We utilize family-centered therapy techniques. Laura is trained certified in Family-centered Regulatory Therapy and some of our clinicians are training in Emotionally-focused Family Therapy. Laura also provides "Hold Me Tight - Let Me Go" Workshops for Parents and Teens. These workshops provide a jump-start to healing for parents and teens who are drifting apart during this challenging phase of adolescence.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
IFS is a transformative approach that identifies and addresses multiple sub-personalities or families within each individual's mental system. By healing these internal parts, individuals can bring about positive external changes in their family dynamics.
Foster Care and Adoptive Families
Foster Care and Adoption is a beautiful experience but change can make a parent or child feel overwhelmed. There may be trauma wounds that can interfere with a child's ability to attach and adjust to new environments. With our extensive experience in working with families who have successfully fostered and adopted, we will be able to support you through the process and provide treatment for mental health symptoms interfering with your families' ability to love and embrace each other fully.
Attachment-Based Therapy
Rooted in the understanding that early attachment styles with primary caregivers influence our relationships throughout life. By exploring these early attachments, families can gain insight into behaviors and reactions, allowing for collective healing and growth.
Therapeutic Parenting
We can help you let go of past hurts and build family relationships that feel safe, secure, and even fun! Parent coaching is a great way to learn to provide a therapeutic environment at home so your child can thrive. Whether your family is a traditional nuclear family, a foster family, a single parent family, a multi-generational family, or an adoptive family; we can help you find the closeness to endure through tough times. We have therapists with experience working with traumatized families and parents of infants, toddlers, young children, and teens.

FAQs

At Olive Leaf, families can expect sessions that focus on healing the individual parts of the family to strengthen it as a whole. We are here to help you learn how to help each other in the midst of stress and to always know each member is there for each other. In all situations, you will learn to consider whether your choices are helping build toward healthier family dynamics or tear it apart, and you will learn to always consider this before responding.

Family therapy differs from individual therapy in that it highlights each member of the family and focuses on how the parts help make up the whole in a healthy way. While it does look at individual parts, its goal is for everyone involved to promote love and strength toward the entire family.
-
Absolutely, there is a strict therapist-patient confidentiality that we abide by. None of your information is made public without your consent.
-
While we focus a lot on the parents in families, we are also able to make sure the children in families are being heard as well. As long as the children can communicate their feelings to one of our therapists as they would in a child therapy session, they may be involved in family therapy.
