Laura received her BA in Psychology in 2013 from Fresno State and her MA in Counseling, Marriage, and Family Therapy from National University in 2023. Her professional experience includes working with adults and adolescents in an outpatient therapeutic environment, as well as working with adults in crisis at a residential treatment center. She also has experience with facilitating groups including anger management and DBT-centered groups.
While Laura specializes in working with adults, she also enjoys working with adolescents, families, and couples. The main therapeutic approaches that she incorporates into therapy sessions are CBT, DBT, exposure therapy, attachment theory, and solution-focused therapy.
She takes a more person-centered approach to therapy. Building rapport, empathetic understanding, validation, and supportive reflection are all important aspects of therapy and it's important that patients feel supported and safe in the therapeutic environment.
Laura hopes that clients will feel supported and safe when working with her and that they are able to continue utilizing learned coping skills when they leave the therapy setting.
Laura became a therapist so she could help and guide others to see the light and hope inside of them when they are having trouble seeing it for themselves. One of her favorite quotes is "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one remembers to turn on the light". This quote reminds her that even in dark times, hope and better days are right around the corner.
