Fun Ideas for Couples Looking to Reconnect
When looking to reconnect with one’s partner, many couples are hoping to find fun and novel
ways to build intimacy and cultivate closeness. In addition to spending quality time together or
going on the typical date night, there are other options to try when hoping to foster connection.
Games
There are a multitude of games specifically designed for couples. A quick search on the
internet will bring up reasonably priced games for couples looking to reconnect. There are card
game packs, such as We’re Not Really Strangers – Couple’s Edition and Let’s Get Deep –
Questions for Couples; both have stacks of questions that vary in level of “deepness.” On
long road trips, during a meal together, or during a date night, couples can pull out a few of
these cards as prompts to explore the relationship and better understand their partner. There
are also board-style games that are either designed for pairs to explore topics related to their
relationship or games that take two players and are more about friendly competition or
teamwork.
Apps
There are also more and more apps created to support couples in reconnecting and deepening
their relationship. Downloading an app onto your phone that can send reminders and
notifications can be helpful when you need an extra nudge to make time to connect with your
partner. There are apps with prompts for daily questions, apps with fun games for couples to
play together, apps with ideas for intimacy and physical connection, and apps to help store
memories and important dates. One in particular, called Agapé sends a reminder for a daily
question, has other questions you can choose to answer in addition to the daily question, and
allows the couple to send notes or upload shared memories.
In addition to some of these fun ideas, it is important that couples actively choose to make
reconnection a priority. For some couples, that means scheduling time during the day or week
to spend quality time together. For other couples, that could mean adjusting what aspects of
their lives need to take more of a backseat in order to devote more to their relationship.
Strengthening intimacy and connection takes time and energy, but that does not mean it
cannot be a fun and enjoyable experience.
